Education and Training page
Whether you are an individual, a business, a community group, charity, school or college I can design and run customised photography courses to suit your requirements.
If you need a couple of hours' workshop, regular sessions over a period of time or an intensive course, I would be happy to discuss your requirements and offer a programme at a competitive rate.

I have over twenty five years experience of teaching and training at all levels, from primary to post-graduate, in a wide range of community and business contexts, and can cover most aspects of photography.
Digital photography and the associated software skills are much in demand these days, and I also have extensive film and darkroom experience.
Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop remain the industry standard in imaging software, but many people are moving to applications such as Exposure and Affinity Photo, and I can also offer training in those.

Photography and Software Training for Businesses
Many organisations need some photography done in-house, and I can train staff in basic camera and lighting techniques for this purpose.
I can also design staff training programmes for imaging software.
For bigger or more specialised photography jobs, I am available as a photographer too, of course.

Workshops in Schools and Community Groups
For a number of years I have been offering customised workshops in school and community settings.
I can teach a wide range of photography skills, from the darkroom to digital photography and image manipulation, with software such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.
I would work with you to design the workshop content and delivery, and where necessary offer advice on cameras and software.

Private Training for Individuals and Small Groups
I also offer customised training on a 1:1 basis or with small groups, working closely with you to make sure your exact requirments are met.
My rates are competitive, and the more individual focus can make this cost effective compared to doing a course with larger groups.
Popular examples are: a session on how to get the most from your new digital camera; how to photograph and size items effectively for sale on Ebay; using imaging software effectively; sessions for artists on how to get good photos of your 2D or 3D artwork.
I can also train in genres such as landscape photography, studio photography and documentary photography.

Education Providers
I have many years experience of teaching in a college setting, in both further and higher education contexts.
This includes writing, developing and leading both full time and part time courses. Until 2011 I was a senior lecturer at City of Bristol College, and designed and ran a number of courses for them, including their highly successful Foundation Degree in Professional Photography.
I can bring my teaching skills and experience to a variety of settings and am available to deliver a specific module, to provide cover for holidays or sickness, or as a visiting lecturer, for example.
I currently teach workshops for Bristol Folk House Darkroom, the Royal West of England Academy Drawing School, and Red Cloud Days, and until recently ran residential photographic holidays for HF Holidays.

NVQ Assessing and Internal Verifying
I am a fully qualified assessor and verifier for NVQs, and can offer these services for organisations providing photo imaging related qualifications.
Some comments from education clients:

"An excellent day was had by myself, Martin helped me to improve my product photography to the next level. At each stage Martin explained and modeled the task, having completed the task it would be debriefed and ways to improve were discussed and tried. A full day of training was had in a very pleasant atmosphere, no time was waste and I felt I had extremely good value 1-2-1 experience. I would highly recommend Martin and will use him again."
Isaac, private client on studio photography workshop

"Martin Edwards is a very knowledgeable and capable teacher.  I approached him for help with Adobe Lightroom, and was delighted that he explained very patiently and allowed me to learn at my own pace, and take plenty of time to do each of the tasks myself.  Thank you Martin! You are life changing and brilliant and can't wait til next lesson! Put that in your comments!
Louise, private client, Redland

"The sessions have proved to be a series of invaluable workshops, which we would want to repeat with each new intake of students. Martin is a tutor who is skilled and patient and a total success with the students."
Andrea Montag, former Head of Design, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School
